Escape From The Law

A couple of weeks ago I received a practical example of escaping the law.

Apparently, as was pointed out to me by an OKC Motorcycle policeman, my foot was weighing far to heavily on the accelerator. I was unaware of my speed so he wished to remind me with a friendly but expensive document.

After confirming I wasn't a fugitive from justice he proclaimed my judgment...45 in a 25 construction zone. But here's the best part... Austin, my grandson, interrupts and begins talking to the police officer...for the next 10 minutes! I quietly let him talk and finally the wonderful civil servant looks at me, tucks my ticket under his arm and says, 'I'll take care of this. Have a slower and safe day". Do you think I was grateful for that officer's grace? Do you think I was grateful for Austin "butting in"?

Getting underway, after a prayer of thanks to the Lord, the mental picture of God's judgment popped into my head. Metaphorically, God was like the officer - he had me dead to rights. Austin was like Jesus - getting me out of the punishment I deserved... mediating to the officer for me.

I was extremely grateful to escape my breaking of the law, but the reminder was that I have someone standing in for me, pleading for my escape from eternal punishment. That causes me to again offer thanks for the great mediator who will plead for all of us. Amen.
